AI Governance Law
Practical counsel for how AI actually gets built, bought, and governed.
AI governance is still a new discipline — which is exactly why it rewards someone who's built it, not just studied it. My approach starts with a scalable governance framework: surfacing risk early across every facet of an AI use case, mapping the regulations that actually apply, and translating all of it into a strategy that makes business sense — not just a binder that sits on a shelf.

[ How I Work ]
My Approach
A Scalable, Risk-First Framework
Governance that scales starts by surfacing risk early — not just the risk of the use case itself, but the layers around it: data, vendor, operational, and reputational exposure. From there, the regulations that actually apply get mapped to each specific use case, and the whole picture rolls up into a framework and strategy built to make business sense, not just check a legal box.
Grounded in How AI Actually Gets Built
Governance only works if it reflects how your organization actually develops, buys, and deploys AI — not a theoretical model of it. Every framework starts with your real use cases, vendors, and risk exposure, not a template retrofitted to fit.
Direct Access, No Middle Layer
As a solo practice, there's no associate drafting your memo and no partner signing off days later. You work directly with the person doing the analysis, with turnaround that matches the pace AI decisions actually move at.

About Nick Baker
I'm Nick Baker, a Minnesota-licensed attorney focused on AI governance advisory and regulatory strategy. I hold a J.D. with a certificate in Intellectual Property Law and an M.B.A. — a combination that keeps me fluent on both the legal and business sides of the table.
Before law, I spent years working inside enterprise SaaS and AI organizations, including building and operationalizing AI governance programs for Fortune 500 clients. That operational background shapes how I practice: practical, business-aware counsel grounded in how these issues actually play out day-to-day, not just how they read in a statute.
My work centers on AI governance advisory — risk assessment, policy drafting, and framework design — helping clients navigate a regulatory landscape that continues to shift.
[ Focus Areas ]
Where I Help
AI Policy Drafting
Generative AI and data policy drafted for how your organization actually operates — acceptable use, vendor terms, and data handling in language that holds up, not a template borrowed from someone else's playbook.
AI Governance Discovery
A structured first look at your AI use cases and risk exposure — scoped transparently, before any commitment to a larger engagement, so you know exactly what you're getting into.
AI Governance Framework
A governance framework built to fit your organization — policy, risk ownership, and oversight brought together into one coherent structure, not bolted on piece by piece.
